Jan Yager is a prolific author and publishing professional who has been researching and writing books since her first book, on the history of vegetarianism, was published by Scribner’s when she was just 26.  The former J.L. Barkas, she went on to get a masters in criminal justice and a Ph.D. in sociology. (Her graduate school, The City University of New York, made her a recipient of a prestigious Alumni of the Year award in 2006.) Yager, who has taught at the University of Connecticut, St. John’s University, Penn State, and The New School, among other colleges and universities, is the author of 26 award-winning nonfiction and fiction titles including WHEN FRIENDSHIP HURTS (Simon & Schuster/Fireside Books, 2002), in a 6th printing in 2009 with 17 translations, BUSINESS PROTOCOL (Wiley), WORK LESS, DO MORE (Sterling) and co-author of two career reference books, CAREER OPPORTUNITIES IN THE PUBLISHING INDUSTRY and CAREER OPPORTUNITIES IN THE FILM INDUSTRY, published by Facts on File, Inc., among other titles. A coach and speaker who also did a year of graduate work in art therapy, Jan’s been on countless major TV and radio shows, and she is quoted extensively in print and online publications, including OPRAH, THE VIEW, TODAY SHOW, GOOD MORNING AMERICA, THE EARLY SHOW, CBS SUNDAY MORNING, CNN, ABC NIGHTLINE, THE NEW YORK TIMES, WALL STREET JOURNAL, PARADE, etc. Jan speaks on business and relationship topics including improving productivity, business protocol, work relationships, friendship, as well as how to generat publicity or sell foreign rights.
