| Friendship expert Dr. Jan Yager has been researching this fascinating relationship
since it was the topic of her sociology dissertation (City University of New York, 1983).
She has interviewed or surveyed hundreds of men and women, children, and couples about their
friendship patterns and related issues such as intimacy, betrayal, and conflict. The
former J.L. (Janet) Barkas, Dr. Jan Yager, a member of the National Speakers Association, has authored books on friendship and related topics, such as coping with jealousy and
work relationships including friendship at work, published by such companies as Simon & Schuster, Inc.,
(Fireside Books), Hannacroix Creek Books, Inc., and Garland. Dr. Yager's books on friendship have been
translated into Spanish, French, Italian, simple and complex Chinese, Korean, Japanese, and Dutch with
other languages in preparation. She conducts workshops and delivers keynote addresses on friendship
topics nationally and internationally before government, association, corporate, and other audiences.
Interviewed regularly by print and broadcast media on friendship, such as the Wall Street Journal,
USA Today, The Oprah Winfrey Show, The Today Show, and BBC radio, Dr. Yager is also
